This Thailand Itinerary blends the bustling energy of Bangkok, the stunning beauty of Krabi, the mesmerizing Phi Phi Islands, and the cultural charm of Chiang Mai. Plus, I’ll also share why I chose Krabi over Phuket and I’d suggest you do the same.
Thailand Itinerary Day 1-3: Bangkok
Where to Stay in Bangkok
There are a ton of different hotels to stay at in Bangkok, so it really depends on what part of the city you’d prefer to stay in. I had the opportunity to stay at Avani+ Riverside and also visit Anantara Riverside. I would highly recommend either of these hotels. Here are some of the features and reasons.
Choosing between Avani+ Riverside and Anantara Riverside in Bangkok can be a delightful yet challenging decision, as both properties are renowned for their luxury, scenic locations along the Chao Phraya River, and exceptional service. Let’s delve into the unique features of each hotel to help you make an informed decision based on your preferences.

The hotel’s facilities include an infinity pool with a bar, a fitness center, and a spa for relaxation. Guests can also enjoy river cruises and various recreational activities, all complemented by Avani+’s attentive and friendly service.
Situated along the Chao Phraya River, Anantara Riverside offers a lush and expansive resort-like setting, providing a peaceful escape from the bustling city while remaining accessible to major attractions. The hotel features luxurious and spacious rooms and suites, characterized by a touch of traditional Thai design. Some accommodations may include private balconies or terraces, offering a serene outdoor space. Anantara is renowned for its diverse dining experiences, including signature restaurants with Thai and international cuisine. Guests can dine with a view of the river or amidst lush gardens. The hotel’s extensive facilities include multiple swimming pools, a spa, tennis courts, and a golf putting green. Anantara Riverside provides a complimentary boat shuttle to the nearby Asiatique the Riverfront. Celebrated for its exceptional service, Anantara focuses on personalized attention and creating memorable experiences for guests.
Both Avani+ Riverside and Anantara Riverside offer exceptional experiences along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. Whether you choose the modern and vibrant atmosphere of Avani+ or the luxurious tranquility of Anantara, you’re sure to have a memorable stay in the vibrant city of Bangkok. Consider your preferences for ambiance, amenities, and activities when making your decision.
Day 1: Arrival and Exploration
Your journey begins as you touch down at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, a city known as the ‘City of Angels.’ After checking into your hotel, dive headfirst into the heart of Thai culture with a visit to the Grand Palace. This architectural marvel houses the revered Emerald Buddha and offers a captivating introduction to Thailand’s rich history and artistic heritage. It offers absolutely stunning architecture and it’s just a beautiful place to spend the afternoon.
Day 2: Temples and Street Life
On your second day, immerse yourself in the spiritual allure of Wat Pho, home to the colossal reclining Buddha. Enhance your experience by taking a boat ride along the Chao Phraya River, winding your way through Bangkok’s intricate network of canals, known locally as khlongs. As the evening descends, wander through vibrant street markets, savoring the eclectic flavors of authentic Thai street food.
You can read all about what temples to visit in Thailand here. If you do have an extra day, I would highly recommend taking a dray trip to Ayutthaya. It is the ancient city just about an hour outside of Bangkok. It was one of my favorite aspects of the trip and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who visits Thailand.
Day 3: Modern Bangkok
Day three is dedicated to exploring modern Bangkok. Venture into futuristic shopping centers such as Siam Paragon and MBK Center, treating yourself to a shopping spree amidst the city’s contemporary allure. For a breather, head to Lumpini Park, an oasis of greenery in the midst of urban chaos. As night falls, delve into the lively nightlife scene along Khao San Road or indulge in the entertainment offerings at Asiatique the Riverfront.
You may also want to spend some time exploring Bangkok’s rooftops for amazing views. It’s one of the reasons I loved my stay at the Avani+ Riverside. They had a rooftop pool and bar with amazing views of the river and the city.
Thailand Itinerary Day 4-6: Krabi
Day 4: Flight to Krabi and Railay Beach
Bid adieu to the bustling cityscape and catch a flight to Krabi, a province renowned for its stunning limestone cliffs, clear turquoise waters, and vibrant marine life. Revel in the serene beauty of this secluded haven, popular among both beach enthusiasts and rock climbers.

Why Krabi over Phuket?

It is more picturesque than any beach in Phuket, offering a secluded paradise.

Thailand Itinerary Day 8-10: Chiang Mai
I did not visit Chiang Mai during my two week trip to Thailand. However, one of the girls I met on the trip, and one of my best friends both said Chiang Mai was their favorite stop in Thailand. Given their experiences and everything I’ve read abou Chiang Mai, I am confident to include it in the 10 day Thailand Itinerary.
Day 8: Flight to Chiang Mai and Old City Exploration
Bid farewell to Krabi and hop on a flight to Chiang Mai. It is a city nestled in the mountainous region of northern Thailand. Begin your Chiang Mai adventure by exploring the Old City. It is encircled by ancient walls and adorned with temples. The iconic Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang are located here.
Day 9: Doi Suthep and Hill Tribes
On day eight, ascend to the sacred Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It is perched atop a mountain offering panoramic views of Chiang Mai. Immerse yourself in the cultural richness of the region by visiting one of the nearby hill tribe villages, such as the Karen or Hmong tribes, gaining insights into their unique traditions and way of life.
Day 10: Elephant Nature Park and Farewell
On your 10 day Thailand Itinerary, you must make time to visit an elephant sanctuary. Day ten unfolds with an ethically conscious encounter with the Elephant Nature Park.
