When I found out I was heading to Thailand, I initially thought I would head to Phuket for a tropical getaway. Then, I joined a Thailand facebook group and noticed over and over that people suggested Krabi leaps and bounds ahead of Phuket. After some searching and research, I decided Krabi Banyan Tree was the perfect last stop on my two week Thailand itinerary. Krabi is a province located on the southern-west coast of Thailand. It is best known for its limestone cliffs and offshore islands. Some of the most well-known beaches are at the Phi Phi Islands, including Maya Bay, where The Beach was filmed. 

After a lot of research, I decided to head to Krabi and stay at the Krabi Banyan Tree Resort.  In this comprehensive guide, I’ll discuss the reasons why you should choose Krabi Banyan Tree for your stay in Krabi and the exciting excursions you can embark on, including the Four Island Tour, Phi Phi Islands, James Bond Island, and the hidden gem – the Emerald Cave.

Why Choose Krabi Banyan Tree?

I looked at many hotels before settling on Banyan Tree. Initially, I booked my stay at the Ritz Carlton Reserve in Krabi. I chose that property because I am a platinum-status member with Marriott, so I figured the perks would be worth it. However, the cost seemed unrealistic given that most things are significantly cheaper in Thailand. I had considered using points to cover my stay but instead opted to stay at Banyan Tree because it was only about 1/3 of the cost of the Ritz and seemed significantly nicer for the cost. I.e. I was able to get a suite with my own pool and hot tub for significantly less than if I stayed at the Ritz.

The resort’s location allows guests to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Krabi, with breathtaking views from their private villas. Whether you’re waking up to a stunning sunrise or enjoying the tranquil sunsets, the setting is nothing short of spectacular. It also has its own private beach and stunning views of the mountainous islands in the middle of the ocean. 
   2. Luxurious Accommodations: The resort offers a variety of luxurious accommodations, including pool villas and beachfront pool villas. Each villa is tastefully designed and equipped with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable and indulgent stay. The attention to detail in the design and furnishings of the villas reflects the resort’s commitment to offering guests a truly lavish experience. There were so many nice touches. Each day, they brought a new essential oil and incense. They also brought little treats and fresh fruit to my room each day, along with a little gift for staying there. My room had a private pool and spa and quite a large seating area, so I actually spent most of my time in my room when I wasn’t on an excursion. The bathroom was also massive with a very large soaker tub, giant shower, and amazing views from everywhere in both the bathroom and bedroom area. 

1. Privacy and Seclusion: Banyan Tree Krabi is extremely private. The resort’s villas are strategically placed to provide a sense of seclusion, allowing guests to unwind in peace. Whether you’re lounging by your private pool or enjoying a meal on your terrace, you’ll feel a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As I said, the beach was also private, so the entire place just felt very secluded and serene. When I first arrived, I honestly wished I had been here on a honeymoon – it definitely gave that romantic vibe. 
2. Exceptional Dining: With multiple dining options, the resort caters to a variety of tastes. Enjoy delectable Thai and international cuisine at the resort’s restaurants while relishing stunning sea views. Saffron, the signature Thai restaurant, offers a culinary journey through the region’s flavors, and Taihei serves up delightful Japanese dishes, making dining at Banyan Tree an adventure in itself. The daily breakfast was also phenomenal. There were so many options to choose from. My breakfast was included in my room rate, and for only 100 baht you could have your breakfast in your room each morning, which I opted for most of the days of my stay so I could have breakfast out by my private pool. 
3. Award-Winning Spa: The world-renowned Banyan Tree Spa offers a range of rejuvenating treatments and massages. It’s the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate after a day of exploration. Experience the healing touch of expert therapists who will soothe your body and mind, leaving you refreshed and revitalized. I had a chance to visit the spa and experience their hydro treatment. It was a private experience in soaking tubs, plunge pools, and other water features. Although it wasn’t really for me, I can say that the overall service and spa was quite nice and if I had stayed longer, I would have tried a massage or facial.

The Krabi Banyan Tree Resort is located about an hour from the airport, but only about 20 minutes from the area you’d take off for an excursion. I booked my excursions through a third party, but it was great because I was picked up from my hotel each morning and then brought back to my hotel at the end of the excursion. There are so many tour options available. You can find tons of excursion options here, but these are some of the ones I’d suggest below.

Four Island Tour

Your Krabi experience wouldn’t be complete without the Four Island Tour. This tour takes you to some of the most beautiful islands in the region: Phra Nang Cave Beach, Chicken Island, Poda Island, and Tup Island.
