I’m a major fan of sweater dresses. I love to wear them in the winter time especially. They are the perfect winter dress in LA because they provide just enough warmth for the cooler days when pair with boots and a jacket, while still being versatile for the warmer winter days when paired with flats or sandals. I recently added this cute black and white color block sweater dress to my roster, and I’m loving the fit and cute off-the-shoulder detail.

Why I Love This Color Block Dress

The color block trend is something I’ve been into for awhile. I actually first posted about color blocking back in 2013 when I talked about color blocked handbags. I also talked about color block coats here and here. I looked back to see if I’m blogged about color block dresses before, but the only one I could find is this post. For me, the thing about this dress that is so special is the faux wrap and bold color block. The ivory against the black is so striking. I also love the little scallop detail at the neckline. The off-the-shoulder option is also so flattering. This dress can be worn completely off the shoulder, like I did. Or, you could do one shoulder or actually keep both shoulders covered.

I love the versatility of this dress. I also love that this sweater dress has a built-in waistband, which is so great for creating a cinched in look. The bottom of the dress also has two little slits, which adds a little extra visual detail. The sleeves on this dress are also interesting. Although it’s rather hard to tell from the photos, but they have more of a bell sleeve, which is a fun juxtaposition against the form fitting color block dress.

How to Style a Sweater Dress

How to wear a sweater dress really depends on the weather and where you’re going. If you are wearing the color block sweater dress for a dressier occasion, then you’ll want to pair with knee high boots, strappy heels, or another sexy shoe option. If you want to wear your sweater dress in a more casual setting, then flats, flat boots, or even sneakers could work. Obviously, the style of the dress will dictate your footwear. However, shoes really can drastically change a look. For example, if I threw an oversized puffer jacket and chunky sneakers over the top of this color block sweater dress, I’d instantly have a casual look that works really well. However, you can tell in these photos that I chose to go dressy for this particular sweater dress. I personally think the black and white lends itself to an evening look.
