How To Make This Marshmallow Cheerio Treats Recipe

For the last 6 months, I’ve had a giant box of honey nut Cheerios in my pantry. Although my kids do love Cheerios, it usually isn’t their first choice. I’ve kept the pantry too full, so they opt for one of their other favorites instead of the Cheerios. Thus, I needed to find a way to get them eaten, so I decided to make marshmallow cheerio treats.

I know this might seem like a simple and obvious recipe. But for some reason, I never considered using other cereal to make cereal bar treats. I always use Rice Krispies. I wasn’t sure that cheerio treats would turn out as well, but I figured it was worth the risk. To make these cereal bars, you only need 3 ingredients – butter, a bag of marshmallows, and a box of cereal.

You can make them in the microwave or you can make them on the stovetop. I’m a fan of the microwave for quickness. First, you melt the butter. Then, you add the bag of marshmallows and microwave until they are melted. You may want to check it and mix every 30 seconds until the butter and marshmallows are completely melted and incorporated.

Then, you dump in 7 cups of cereal and mix until well combined. That’s it! These Cheerio treats are really the easiest dessert option there is. My kids absolutely love cinnamon toast crunch, so I think I’ll try making those cereal bars next. Overall, these turned out well and my kids loved them. Although this recipe isn’t anything unique or special, I was excited to learn that I can use basically any cereal to make cereal bar treats.
