Here is Why I’m Loving Stack Earrings (Like I Did in the 90s)

By Stacey Freeman Leave a Comment

I don’t have tattoos, but I’ve always been into piercings. Just ask my college roomie. She watched me get at least two body piercings, if not three. (?). Believe it or not, I had my tongue pierced in college, well, up until grad school. My boyfriend, at the time, pointed out to me that it wasn’t very professional to be in grad school with a tongue ring because of what it ‘said’ about me. Looking back, I find it fairly hilarious that I thought tongue rings were cool, but I was young, it was the early 2000s, what do you expect? The tongue ring was a bit of my rebellion, I suppose. But, I’ve never gotten tired of earrings, especially stack earrings.

I’ll never forget when I got my ears pierced for the first time. I was 8 or 9 and my mom took me to Claires. As you can imagine, I was so excited. I think a few years later, maybe around 12, she let me get a second hole. By the time high school rolled around, I think I had three, and by the time I was in college, I had a total of 10 earring holes in my ears (4 in one and 6 in the other).  I think I rocked the stack earrings until at least my mid 20s. At some point, I removed all but the very bottom ones.

A couple years ago, I added in the second hole. I found this adorable little kissing lips stud at Catbird and I just had to have it. Recently, I started seeing a lot more stack earrings pop up on my IG feed and I came to this realization that I missed wearing my earrings.

I opted for a couple pairs of huggie-style earrings (small hoops) and also a bar stud. I tried to punch through the fourth hole, but didn’t have luck. I’m considering re-piercing the fourth hole if I can’t work my way through (eww).

Honestly, I’m loving the stack earrings for a couple reasons. One, I’m lazy with my accessories lately, so having more earrings gives me the bling I want without any effort. (I never take them out unless I’m going to wear a different bottom earring). Two, it does make me feel a little more youthful and also nostalgic for younger years. Good or bad, I’m loving the stack earrings right now.

So what do you think of stack earrings?
