I've been to DC before, but never in the spring. I was very excited to see the city in spring, as I'd heard so many great things about the cherry blossoms. What I didn't expect was all of the spring flowers that were in bloom. Tulips, Daffodils and Flowering Trees There were tulips everywhere! Nearly every turn I made, I saw tulip, daffodils and other spring flowers in bloom. Many of the streets were lined with pink and white flowering trees. I was so blown away by the beauty of all the flowers amongst the statuesque buildings and monuments. The Hope Diamond at the Smithsonian I was in DC for a conference so I didn't have too much free time to explore the city and capture a lot of shots, but I did have some time to visit a few historic buildings and museums. My first stop was the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. If you haven't been before, you should definitely make a quick stop to check out the gorgeous architecture and the giant elephant in the lobby. I personally loved the gems and stones exhibit. I got to see the hope diamond and I loved all the other giant minerals in a rainbow of colors. Flowering Trees Around the Washington Monument I also had a chance to visit the Washington Monument, which was so pretty because of all the pink flowering trees around it. It was quite cold that day, for someone from Phoenix at least! I even brought a coat, hat and gloves, but couldn't stand the 30 degrees and strong winds for long enough to check out more of the monuments. Striking Elegance of the Supreme Court Architecture Despite my wimpiness, I did get a chance to also visit the Supreme Court building, which was quite beautiful. It has lovely architecture and was surrounded by gorgeous landscaping, with more flowers all around it. Beautiful Murals at the Library of Congress I also stopped by the Library of Congress. This is a place I never knew I wanted to visit, but man, if you're in DC, you need to go here! The architecture and paintings on the high ceilings and beams are seriously breathtaking. I was blown away by the stature of this building and all of the intricacies of the murals. The Library of Congress actually reminded me a lot of some of the murals I saw at Versailles. It is that good! Overall, I had a great visit to Washington DC in springtime. I wish I had arrived a week or two earlier so I could have seen the cherry blossoms in bloom and attended the Cherry Blossom Festival. Even though I missed out, I still got to see a lot of beautiful flowering trees and lots of spring flowers in bloom. Washington DC is really gorgeous in the spring, so if you have the chance, you should definitely visit sometime. What are your favorite things to do in Washington DC?
