Getty Archives - Posh in Progress

When I was in LA earlier this summer, I had the chance to visit the Getty. The reason I attended was because one of my friends told me about the Icons of Style Fashion exhibit. Given my love of fashion, it definitely seemed like something I should check out. The funny thing is that I actually spent most of my morning trip to the Getty enjoying the gardens. But I did spend quite a bit of time in the Icons of Style Fashion exhibit too. My favorite part about the exhibit was the mannequins with the vintage fashion. Walking in and one of the first things I saw was this timeless Dior dress. One of the many things I love about fashion is watching it morph over time. I find it absolutely fascinating to be at the age where I'm seeing trends I rocked in elementary, middle and high school come back strong. I walked into the mall the other day and I felt transported back to 1991. But then I saw the way it had shifted, was made new and just lightly different and modern. It is so neat to see styles shift and see how people adapt and change fashion. Walking through the gallery, it was so nice to see a century worth of fashion. I was particularly drawn to the 50s - 70s - those three decades, it was fascinating to see the shift. It was also fun to see some gorgeous clothes and photography. I personally find photo galleries a lot more interesting than paintings. I guess photography would be one of my favorite media forms. A lot of things caught my eye, but this cocoon sweater really caught my attention. There was something about the shape, red lines and oversized nature that I just adore. If you have a chance to stop by the Getty before the Icons of Style exhibit leaves, I'd highly suggest it. I really enjoyed my morning at the Getty, and this exhibit didn't disappoint! (Travel note: admission to the museum is free! I believe parking was $15).
