If you follow my page, you know that I love making easy recipes with puff pastry. Puff pastry is such a game-changer for baking and cooking because it saves so much time and also tastes so good. My newest recipe is these apple roses with puff pastry. They are such a pretty recipe, such a great breakfast pastry or dessert option. If you love apple baked goods, you're going to love this apple roses puffed pastry treat. It is so simple to make and turned out so beautifully. I dusted the apple puff pastry roses with powdered sugar, once they were cooled. This made them look prettier. Next time, I think I might take each individual puff pastry rose and add just the lightest drizzle of a sugar glaze, to almost mimic dew on the petals. I think the sweetness of a glaze would taste so good with the tart apples and buttery pastry. How to Use Store-Bought Puff Pastry I prefer to use store-bought puff pastry because it is so much easier than making it from scratch. You can find it in the freezer section of your supermarket near the pie crusts or store-bought pies. It is best if you defrost it overnight. It is so much easier to work with if it's not frozen. Once your puff pastry is defrosted, add some flour to your cutting board. Unfold the puff pastry and then roll it out to get rid of the creases. Then, you'll cut each of the puff pastry squares into 6 strips. Once you have your strips cut, you can add an apricot or orange jam glaze to each of the strips. The next step is to make a simple cinnamon sugar coating to sprinkle on top of the puff pastry and jam before adding the apples. You'll use the other half of the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat the apples. How to Make Apple Roses with Puff Pastry Now that we've prepped the puff pastry, let's make the apple roses in puff pastry, Once you have the puff pastry prepped, you need to slice your apples. One mistake I made was not slicing my apples thin enough and then not cooking them long enough for trying to put together the puff pastry apple roses. The first one I tried completely broke and fell apart. How to Get Thin-Sliced Apples If you want your apples to be thin and the same width, I'd highly suggest using a mandoline. This one has very good reviews. Once you slice the apples, it's really important to cook them to make them pliable. I put mine in a microwave-safe bowl, added water and lemon juice (to keep them from browning), and microwaved them for 2-3 minutes until the apples were easy to bend. You don't want to overcook them, but if they don't bend without snapping, you need to cook them longer. Once the apples are pliable, you can place them overlapping on the puff pastry with the skin-side facing upward. There is no need to peel the apples, as the red skin makes it look more like rose petals. Make sure you grease or coat a muffin tin with cooking spray before adding each of the apple roses puff pastry to the muffin tin slot. Then, bake at 375 for 40-45 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown. Ingredients for Apple Roses with Puff Pastry 2-3 red apples - any firm apple will do 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar 2 Tablespoons White Sugar 1/2 lemon for juicing 1 package of frozen puff pastry 3 to 4 Tablespoons apricot or apple jelly Directions for Making Puff Pastry Roses Preheat the oven to 375. Prepare your cupcake tin with butter or cooking spray. Add water to a large bowl and add the lemon juice. Using your mandoline or knife, thinly slice the apples. Add the apples to the bowl with water and lemon and set aside. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar and set aside. Place the puff pastry on a floured surface and roll to remove the creases. Cut into 6 equal strips. Add a light coating of the jelly onto each of the strips and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mix. I really hope you'll try this gorgeous apple roses with puff pastry recipe.
