You Need to Try These Long Cardigans for Fall

By Stacey Freeman 1 Comment

One of my current favorite trends for fall are long cardigans. They vary from just below the hips, all the way down to duster lengths. I prefer the mid-thigh length, personally. But I’m really loving all the options out there. You can definitely find the right long cardigan for your body type, because there are just a lot of choices.

If you’re not sure what type of long cardigan is right for you, take stock of your frame. If you’re on the curvier side, you might want to opt for a thinner knit. Super bulky knits tend to add bulk and you may or may not want more bulk. I personally prefer thinner knits, since I’m already pretty bottom heavy. When I add a bulky knit that’s long, it just makes my lower half even wider. But a thinner knit tends to hug my curves a bit better and allows my curvy shape to show.

If you’re pretty thin, then you definitely would look great in the bulkier knits. I love how they look – I’m really into that super cozy look that many of the knits have this season. Unfortunately, they just don’t look the best on me. When I do go for a chunkier knit, I tend to get one that cuts me right at the waist (the smallest part of my body), so that it accentuates the curves better.

I’m also so happy to see so many different colors and patters in long cardigans this fall. There are ones with patterns, stripes, plaids, you name it. The one I just got is a solid red, but it does have another tone of red in the piping, which adds some visual interest up close.

The other great thing about long cardigans is that you can wear them with pants, jeans, dresses, or even leggings. They are quite versatile and can be paired with a lot of different options. If you are on the curvier side, I’d suggest wearing it with form-fitting clothing underneath so you show your shape rather than add bulk.

If you think you’d like to try out long cardigans this fall, here are some of my current favorites. I am sure this is a trend you will love, regardless of your shape.

My sunshine. It was hard for me to celebrate last My sunshine. It was hard for me to celebrate last weekend. Even though we had a great time at a pool party with friends, I felt sort of in a fog over the news and state of our country. But Gigi’s joy and smile was the reminder I needed to remain hopeful. One of the new friends I met at the party said, “there are still good people, that’s what I’m celebrating today.” And that stuck with me. So here’s to focusing on the good in everyday.
