Flower Inspired Fashion
For one of my first fashion posts, I used flowers as inspiration to create a fashion collage (part 1, part 2). Even after a year of posting, we liked the idea so much, we wanted to repeat it again this summer.
Yesterday, I featured some of my favorite Southern California flowers. With these flowers in mind, I created three flower inspired fashion looks. This is my interpretation of the lilac purple, vibrant pink, and bold yellow flowers I’ve admired this spring and summer.
When I saw this Opening Ceremony dress, my first thought was flowers. I love the lilac color and the scalloped detail—almost like petals. It is such a pretty dress, and so feminine. Don’t get me wrong, I love feminine, but I wanted to edge the look up a bit, so I chose a leather vest to add texture and some masculinity. The zig-zag heel mimics the scalloping on the dress, while the chunky ring stones give off a purply hue. The darker purple bag goes, without matching the dress too closely.

Pink linen pants are breezy for summer, and in this look, they act as a neutral. I paired them with this cropped white top with floral details to show off a slim waist and the fitted pants. The simplicity of the look is turned up a notch with snakeskin heels with gold details. I chose this bright pink graphic clutch because it reminded me of the pink flowers and adds a nice pop of color to the look. The sparkly rose gold bangle adds a bit of bling, mimicking the gold in the shoes.

My husband got me some black-eyed Susans recently, just because, and they might be my new favorite flower. The golden yellow is so striking against the black/brown middle of the flower. I love this look because the black and white printed shorts look so crisp and striking against the yellow top. Touches of gold metallic in the bag and earrings add a little shine. The graphic heels aren’t too matchy, with touches of yellow, red and blue, which all meld nicely with the rest of the look.
