It’s July in Phoenix so I’m constantly trying to find ways to stay cool. Homemade ice cream or other icy treats are probably my favorite way to cool down. Last summer, we made some homemade bomb pops, which were a fun summer treat.

I can’t believe it’s October already. But I’m happy it’s October because, in Phoenix, that means fall is here — the nights are the perfect temperature and days are a lot more bearable. Fall is also my favorite time of the year because it means Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner!

I never thought this day would come, that my parents would sell my childhood home. Yes, my dad had been talking about it for several years, but something always stopped them from moving forward with the sale. This summer, they finally decided it was time to move into a new place, with less maintenance and more convenience as they grow older. I (not so secretly) hoped something would happen so they would keep our home, but the sale went through last week and they are closing on their new place later this month.

Our living room was in desperate need of a redo. When Minted contacted me to see if I wanted to select some of their original artwork, I was pretty excited to see what they had to offer. I also immediately thought it seemed like the perfect time to create a DIY gallery wall tutorial.

For my day job, I get to educate museums about sustainability. If that term is confusing, my favorite definition is ‘to live on the earth like we intend to stay’. Basically, sustainability is about finding ways to promote economic prosperity and social justice while also ensuring environmental resilience.

When we finally had all the details in place to move to California from Boston, one thing we knew was that we weren’t going to take our old beds with us. Although they were still in good shape, shipping several mattresses for my entire family, across the country, just wasn’t a smart, or cost-effective idea.

You spend one-third of your life in bed. Have you thought about what you’re sleeping on lately? Honestly, I never gave my mattress much thought. My main priority was comfort.

It’s that spring cleaning time of year. Earlier this spring, I did a segment on KTLA where I talked about some of the products of the year for 2022.

As kids grow, so do their interests, personalities, and needs. What once was a room filled with furniture that had been around since babyhood—some pieces even dating back to infancy—was no longer working for my son.
