5 Tips for Creating the Perfect Boho Bedroom

Here are some boho room ideas to help you get started:

Start with a Neutral Base

To create a boho bedroom that feels cohesive and inviting, it’s important to start with a neutral base. Consider painting your walls a soft white or beige to create a blank canvas for your boho decor. This will allow you to incorporate bold colors and patterns in a way that feels intentional and cohesive.

Incorporate Natural Elements

Boho style is all about bringing nature indoors. Incorporating natural materials like wood, rattan, and jute into your decor will help create a relaxing and earthy ambiance. Consider adding plants, flowers, or even a macrame plant hanger to bring a touch of greenery into your space. I hung these tassels with wood elements on my wall as the focal point above the bed. It is made from cotton and wood, to really bring those natural materials into the space. The mirror above my nightstand is also made of wood, which is another great natural element in the space.

Mix and Match Patterns

Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns in your boho bedroom decor. Look for textiles like kilim rugs, Moroccan blankets, and Indian block-printed fabrics to create a vibrant and eclectic look. When combining patterns, make sure to choose colors that complement each other to create a harmonious overall effect. I mixed a lot of textures and some patterns to create a really unique but yet calming space. I chose to use a light blue for a lot of the space because the color is soft and I wanted a really calming space. Yet, I did add a few pops of color, like in the vases and pillows to add that color element. I went with this rug because it had an interesting pattern and colors, yet still felt neutral.

Layer Textiles in Your Boho Bedroom

Layering textiles is key to creating a cozy and inviting boho bedroom. Consider layering a colorful quilt or throw over your bedding, and adding a few decorative pillows to complete the look. This will not only create visual interest but also add a sense of comfort and warmth to your space. I chose to use this bedspread because its a lovely blue with wavy texture that is perfect for the space. The body pillow I used to flank the entire bed is such a lovely piece that adds a lot of texture to the bed and also matches so well with the wall hanging above the bed. I also added this bohemian throw blanket to the bed for added texture.

Add Unique Pieces

Adding unique pieces is a great way to inject personality and character into your boho room decor. Look for vintage finds like a rattan headboard, a Moroccan lantern, or a handwoven wall hanging to add depth and texture to your space. Remember, the key is to choose pieces that speak to you and reflect your personal style. The geode lamp is one of the unique pieces I added to the space which also has a natural element.  The chair and the storage cabinet I chose are also really unique and also add a lot of visual interest to the space.

Boho Bedroom Furniture

I chose to focus on midcentury modern furniture rather than boho furniture because I just love the midcentury feel. The wood color is rich and still works well with the boho decorations. If you are loving my mid-century furniture, here is my dresser, and here is my nightstand. If you want a boho bed, check out this awesome boho canopy, and this bedframe gives such a perfect boho feel. If you want a boho storage, I absolutely love this console.
