Corset Mini Dress: How to Style it to Look Chic

Just in time for the hottest month, this corset mini dress is my new favorite summer dress. I absolutely adore the fun floral watercolor print. I also love the v-neck and the corsetted bust and drop waist.

When I first saw this dress, I wanted to try it because I loved the way they added rouching on the bodice and the drop waist seam with the cute pleated skirt. This dress has so many cute feminine details that really appealed to me. It’s hard to tell from the photos, but the straps on this dress are made from a matching lighter-weight slightly see-through material. It adds elegance to the straps and the overall feel of the dress.

The back of the dress has a faux corset that is stretchy yet provides extra structure to the dress to really create a beautiful hourglass shape. This dress fit me just perfectly. I’m wearing a size 14, but think I could have probably tried a 12. The length was already pretty short on me, so I think a 12 long would be perfect, but this dress only comes in regular lengths.

What is a Corset and Corset Dress?

If you’ve been paying attention to fashion lately, you know that corsets are having a major moment, especially in tops. There are these cute cropped versions that have almost a v-front that are quite popular. Corset dresses are also having a moment. If you’ve wondered what a corset is, it’s a support garment that is often worn to create a smaller waist. Corsets have been part of the fashion since the 1600s, if not before. Since the late 20th century, the term corset has also been used to describe tops that mimic the shape of traditional corsets, such as the one I linked above.

To style this corset mini dress, I paired it with brown leather strappy heels, which have a wooden heel for a summery vibe. I also added some gold jewelry with a little dainty necklace, bracelets, and chandelier earrings. I finished the look by pairing it with gold and rose gold clutch to play off the gold in my accessories and heels. This is also a dress I could definitely transition to the fall. I could pair it with some suede boots or heels. Then, if I topped it with a cropped leather or suede jacket, it would be perfect for fall.
