“Every piece of jewelry tells a story.” I saw this quote recently and it really resonated with me. It is one of the reasons I am so excited to announce the launch of my first ever jewelry collection – August Lane. The creation of this collection tells it’s own story, so I wanted to share with you how August Lane came to be.
I started collecting jewelry when I was a child. My grandmother gave me my first solid gold bracelet when I was, maybe, 9 and I still own and wear that piece to this day. It is a Cuban chain ID bracelet that has my name engraved in cursive. I had no idea at the time just what timeless taste my grandmother had, and it’s something I think she unknowingly passed onto me. The next piece I was given that has stood the test of time was my very first pair of diamond earrings from my parents. I was 18 and I remember my dad spending significant time explaining to me all about the diamond quality and what I should look for in fine jewelry.
And there is the start of what has become something I cherish, collecting jewelry. Each piece of jewelry I own tells a story, of a person or a place or a moment. Every single day, you will see me with several of the same pieces that I never take off. On my right hand, you’ll find two delicate gold bands each with my children’s names engraved on them. Each piece I own is special. But what sets apart my jewelry collection are a few key things – they are classic, timeless, and of high quality. I hand-pick items that I know will last me for years. These are pieces I will someday pass down to my own children. And these values – timeless, classic, and of quality are key tenants of not only my blog life, but the founding of August Lane.
For the last nine years of writing Posh in Progress, I’ve always focused on practical approaches to living a more stylish life. I often out quality over quantity and I talk a lot about investment pieces. There are certain items in my wardrobe that I always feel are worth the investment – namely, shoes, handbags and jewelry. Why? Because those are the pieces that can carry you from season to season. They can literally last for decades and, if you choose wisely, can be worn with everything in your wardrobe. Although it might night seem practical to spend more on jewelry, it is a wise investment to spend more up-front because the longevity of the item outweighs the upfront cost.
After years of collecting my own jewelry, I thought it was time to share what I’ve learned and introduce my friends, readers, and followers to the benefits of fine jewelry. That’s why I’m so excited about my very first jewelry collection.
August Lane epitomizes what I’ve always said – it is timeless and it is quality. We came up with the name August Lane because August means a lot more than one of my favorite months. August means respected, impressive, magnificent, and illustrious. That is what you will find with all of the August Lane pieces – you will be impressed with their quality and lasting style.
Each piece of August Lane jewelry is custom-made to order. You can choose which type of metal and which type of stone you like best. All of the pieces are made of solid gold or silver and high quality, real stones and gems. You pay more for solid gold and real stones for a reason. Unlike gold-plated or gold-filled jewelry, August Lane jewelry will not tarnish or wear out. You can also wear your jewelry all the time. You don’t have to worry about water, soap or detergents damaging your jewelry like you would with gold-plated or gold-filled jewelry.
I tend to prefer yellow gold and real diamonds, which we offer. But if you prefer white gold or rose gold, or even silver jewelry, we offer that too! You can customize each piece exactly how you want it.
