3 Tips for How to Manage Your Kids’ Snack Time

This post about kids’ snack time has been sponsored by Simple Mills. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Are you struggling to keep your kids’ (or your own) snacking in check since we are all spending more time at home? I know this can be such a struggle for families. That’s why I wanted to share some tips with you for how to keep snack-time nutritious and yummy too. If this is an issue you’ve been having at home, here are three tips to keep snacking in check while your kids are home.

1. Incorporate Nutritious Snack Options

If your kids are anything like mine, I bet they love little cookies and crackers. I’m a big proponent of allowing any food options in moderation. It’s really important to me that I help my kids view food as fuel rather than a moral decision as ‘good or bad’.

That’s why I keep more nutritious options in my home, Simple Mills crackers are made with a wholesome blend of almond flour, sunflower and flax seeds, and 3g of protein per serving! They have a fantastic selection of cookies and crackers that you can get at your local Vons store. My family especially loves their Farmhouse Cheddar Almond Flour Crackers and their Rosemary Sea Salt Almond Flour Crackers. They are made with plant-powered, nutrient-dense ingredients. Smartly sweetened with coconut sugar – a natural, unrefined sweetener and their ingredient line-up is simple, includes almond flour and coconut oil.

For those times we want something sweet, I always keep the Toasted Pecan Crunchy cookies and the Double Chocolate Crunchy cookies on hand. I’m telling you, these cookies and crackers are so good, you wouldn’t even know they are gluten-free.

You can find all of these cookies and crackers at Vons and while you’re there, you can learn more about MONOPOLY SHOP, PLAY, WIN!® Happening at all of the Albertsons family of stores like Safeway, ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Shaw’s, Star Market, Carrs/Safeway, United Supermarkets, Amigos, Albertsons Market, Vons and Market Street Stores.

The game is completely digital this year to make playing even easier. You can easily download the SHOP, PLAY, WIN!® App to scan tickets. Win a prize, an offer or tokens instantly or play the new Match 3 Digital Game.

2. Add Fruits, Veggies or Protein at Each Snack

If you do decide to serve a snack, such as the Farmhouse Cheddar Almond Flour Crackers and their Rosemary Sea Salt Almond Flour Crackers, I would suggest you pair them with some protein, such as slices of cheese, deli meats, or hummus. Your kids will feel much more satiated at snack time if you add protein to their snacks.

I’m also a fan of pairing the Toasted Pecan Crunchy cookies and the Double Chocolate Crunchy cookies with a side of fruit too. I give my kids fruit 2-3 times a day, and a crunchy apple, half a banana, or a bunch of grapes would pair perfectly with the crunchy cookies.

3. Set a Snack Time Schedule

In my household, the kitchen is only open at very specific times. My kids eat on a very regimented schedule, which helps them avoid overeating or snacking too often. They have their three meals – breakfast lunch and dinner, and they also have a snack time between breakfast and lunch and another snack between lunch and dinner. That way, we all know when it’s snack time and we can ensure they have a balanced diet.

I hope these three tips for how to manage your kids’ snack time are helpful for you and your family while we’re spending so much time at home. If you have other tips that have worked well for you, I’d love to hear them! Leave me a comment so we can share our experiences with each other. Are you looking for other kid snack ideas?
