If you had asked me two weeks ago when I shot this Shein look if I’d be talking about anything other than cute floral dresses, I wouldn’t have believed you. If you would have told me that many people are afraid our economy is going to collapse and you could score major COVID retail sales, I would have asked you, “what’s COVID?”
Well, today is literally a different world than a couple of weeks ago. Although a lot of us probably aren’t thinking much about retail shopping, now is actually a great time to stock up on spring and summer items at a steep discount. So if you are on the lookout to add a few new pieces to your wardrobe, now is actually a great time. And it might even boost the economy a bit.

The day that we shot this look was a perfect spring morning in LA. The air was crisp, the trees were just starting to flower, and spring was definitely on its way. Initially, I wasn’t planning to wear a jacket. But, it was a bit too chilly for me when I left my house. So, I grabbed my favorite moto jacket. I took photos with and without the jacket. I opted to run the ones with the jacket because I love the edgy leather against the ultra-feminine frilly dress.
For my look, I chose to pair the dress with some strappy high heels and my classic Chanel bag. I love the all-black accessories combo with the leather jacket. Honestly, the jacket with these shoes and purse work with so many different outfits. I can wear jeans and a tank, leggings and flowy blouse, or even a maxi dress. All of those looks would work with this leather jacket, these heels and this bag.
Especially in a time where our economy is falling, this is a time where I’m so glad that I did spend a bit more on quality pieces that work with everything. This jacket I got back in 2016 when I led a study abroad program to Paris and London. The weather was much chillier than I expected, so I popped into a Topshop in London and found this perfect, thick, leather jacket. It was a bit more expensive than I usually spend on coats, but it’s a jacket I know I am going to own forever.
As for the most timeless bag – the medium caviar flap Chanel with gold hardware. This bag only appreciates with age. Seriously, Chanel bags hold their value better than most retail items.
I know that now probably doesn’t feel like an appropriate time to spend a lot on much of anything except for basic living expenses. But if you have been holding out for great sales, now is the time.
