When I was in high school, I owned a couple pairs of Adidas slides that I’d change into after volleyball practice. I didn’t really rock the slides outside of my sports seasons, but I do remember thinking they were ultra-comfortable and looked pretty darn cute with my knee-high Nike socks (I also wore pig tails for most games, btw). So I’m pretty excited that slides are back in a major way. Plus, I couldn’t get these Gucci slides out of my mind.
Slides actually never left fashion. I’m pretty sure athletes and a lot of dudes have continued to wear them since back in the day. But slides are now much more fashion-forward than I remember. They made a resurgence a few years back when Chanel and some of the other high-end brands showed them in ultra-lux materials (think leather and the signature Chanel chains and CCs).
This year, it’s all about the Gucci slides, if you ask me. When I first spotted these on Gucci’s website, I knew I had to have them. I’m pretty obsessed with florals, as it is, and I’ve been a Gucci fan since the 90s. Thinking way back, just about 20 years ago, I got my first pair of Gucci shades and I also got a Gucci watch that same Christmas. I remember how excited I was to own those shades with the big block G on the sides (similar). I actually still have the watch. It’s a total classic rectangular shape; I think they might even still sell a similar version.
The thing I’ve noticed more and more in my 30s is just how very cyclical fashion is. Things I wore in elementary, middle and high school are back or have already cycled around again. These Gucci slides are no exception.
I’m not suggesting you need to get these particular slides, but the trend is definitely something to consider this summer. I love wearing my slides to the pool and beach, when I need to run a quick errand, or even with altheisure, like these track pants. They also look pretty cute with a little black romper I have.
If you want to try out the slides trend, but not break the bank, there are still a lot of great options out there. Here are some of my current favorites, I’ve mixed in designer slides with totally affordable slides just so you can see how many choices there are to get in on this slide trend.
