Are you in a makeup rut? Personally, I know I am. I tend to stick to my 5-minute no-makeup look most days of the week. I hardly ever throw on lipstick or veer very far from my standard brown eyeshadows. It’s not that I don’t love trying out new makeup – I do! I just don’t take the time to try out new trends that often. This season, I did some research to figure out the top fall 2017 makeup trends so I could give them a try. I think I’ll start with dark lipstick and work my way into color blocking my lids (probably more subtle than shown on the runways!). If you’re interested in trying out some new looks, check out the top beauty trends below.

5 Fall 2017 Makeup Trends

Extreme Manicures

This fall, extreme manicures are on trend. Nail artists took manicures to the next level with interesting designs, materials, and crystals. Designers filled the runways with nail art with intricate patterns at Kenzo and Emilio Pucci, and crystals at Philip Plein. If you want to try some interesting nail art, here’s a negative space manicure and a triangle manicure that are easy to do at home.

Unexpected Black Eyeliner

Black eyeliner is taken to the extreme this fall. Apparently, designers are sick of the basic smoky eye. This season, they had unique placement of lines and bold statements of black liner. It feels more rebellious and imperfect that past seasons. Some of the designers who showed this look was YSL, Balmain, Marni, and Chloe.

Dark Lipstick Shades

Fall lipstick definitely has a 90s vibe with dark hues in prunes, berries, and purples. If you’re worried to try dark shades, I suggest you put on one coat and then use a tissue to blot some of it away. Also, you should try different shades to find the right one for you. I tested a bunch of colors to find my perfect dark lipstick.  Some of the designers who showed these looks include Valentino, Jil Stuart, and H&M.

Bottom Lashes with Thick Black Mascara

I already talked about how cool black liner is this fall, but thick black mascara is also on trend this fall. The difference is the focus is on the bottom lashes this fall. Personally, I always wear black mascara on the top and the bottom. This fall, makeup artists made the bottom lashes more pronounced. Some of the runways even showed drawn on fake lower lashes at Marni, Tadashi and Cristiano Burani.

Color Blocked Eye Lids

Eyes are definitely the focus for makeup trends for fall 2017 – the black mascara, the black liner, and also color blocking on the eyelids. Interestingly, the designers used color blocking with abandon and a lot of originality this season. Some of the designers who showed color blocking include Oscar de la Renta, Maison Margiela, and Marco di Vincenzo.

These are some of the most interesting fall 2017 makeup trends you should try this season. I’m definitely going to try a subtle take on the color blocking. Which trend are you going to try?
