Here Are 4 Cool Summer Glasses Trends you Need to Try

By Stacey Freeman 2 Comments

summer glasses trendsI’ve been ignoring the inevitable for awhile now. It’s probably been at least five years since I’ve needed to wear glasses, for distance, but I’ve refused. My husband (who has perfect distance vision) has been giving me the hardest time. I regularly ask him to tell me what the TV says or what time the clock reads. Ugh, ok. I officially need glasses! If I’m going to get glasses, they better be cool, so I’m trying out 4 cool summer glasses trends.

Lucky for me, my friends at VisionWorks sent me three different frames and a pair of sunglasses to try. To my delight, I actually love all of them. I especially love the tortoise frames from Chelsea Morgan. The tortoise is so flattering with my skin tone. Also, I prefer a slightly thicker frame. I have a very long face, so the thicker frame helps break it up, I think.

When the glasses arrived, I had the best time trying them on. VisionWorks even sent frames for my daughter to try. Although she doesn’t need glasses right now, she had fun trying on pairs for herself and twinning with me. If you’re shopping for glasses for you and/or your mini this summer, you should definitely check out some of the hot glasses trends. Here are four glasses trends to consider this summer.

4 Summer Glasses Trends to Try

1. Summer’s a Breeze

The Chelsea Morgan frames were my favorite because I loved the two-tone. Classic tortoise in the front, and vibrant blue on the sides. I also loved how closely the mommy and daughter frames were. They almost look identical, which was so fun for my daughter and me.

2. Always On-Trend Tortoise

Twinning has never been easier with these classic Vera Bradley frames. When the glasses first arrived, I was so excited to see the adorable Vera Bradley cases. The fun patterns were a definite favorite for my daughter too.

3. Shopping Chic

Heading out for a day of shopping and fun with your little fashionista? Take a pair of classic Guess sunglasses along for the ride. I don’t know about your kids, but my kids love wearing sunglasses. Although they constantly play with them, they love wearing them. I loved the black Guess frames and the mini pair was also adorable with teal sides. If you’re looking for more tips about sunglasses, I’ve written about them a lot here (I live in AZ, what can I say?).

4. Pretty in Pink

If you and your little one are bursting with personality, then these Chelsea Morgan frames have an explosion of colorful wildflowers. My daughter loved the adult pink glasses the most. She kept wanting to wear them. The mini version was also adorable, with polka dots on the sides.

My mini and I had the most fun trying on all of the glasses and playing twinning for the day. If you haven’t been to a VisionWorks lately, they have the largest selection in the industry. They will definitely have fashion-forward frames to match every mommy and mini style.

Please don’t touch my kids’ hair. Please tell Please don’t touch my kids’ hair. Please tell your kids not to touch their hair. I can’t believe I have to say this or explain why this is racist. But I do.

I’m sure this seems like a random statement to most people. It might not seem like a big deal to you. But it’s not random and it is a big deal. It’s a common experience for Black people, and it’s not ok.

Given everything going on right now, it’s hard for me to talk about a right to our personal space and bodies. That’s part of it. But it’s also about making my kids feel like an other.

New on poshinprogress.com, I’m sharing the story of my shock and surprise when my daughter told me she didn’t feel comfortable wearing her hair down anymore because so many of her classmates were touching her hair. And then being dumbfounded to find out my son has had a similar experience. I also share information on racial micro aggressions and history of Black people’s hair. If this story is surprising or confusing to you, please read more about why it’s never ok to touch Black people’s hair.

During the summer, I live in t-shirt dresses. I try to find ones that have built in shape, like this one with a little shoelace tied waist. I also add shape and finish the look by adding jackets or light layers.

I was going to post about summer fashion. I was go I was going to post about summer fashion. I was going to talk about my kids’ beach camp next week.

But this can’t go unsaid. I am so angry right now. I am terrified for my daughter and women in the U.S.

We just lost a fundamental human right. We just lost control of our bodies.

This is not about saving the lives of unborn children. Because if it was, then all guns would be banned - because guns are the leading cause of childhood death in the U.S.

This decision is about control. About controlling women.

If you have the ability to choose whether to own a gun, why can’t I choose the healthcare decisions that are right for me? This is no longer a democracy. This decision has so much greater impact than people even realize.

If you’re looking for resources, I’m linking a comprehensive one in my stories. This is not a place for debate, this is a place to protect women and our rights to control our bodies. We must stand together.
