Finding the Perfect Pink Lipstick For Your Skin Tone

finding the perfect pink lipstick for your skin tone

It can be a struggle to find the perfect pink lipstick for your skin tone. Every time I visit a makeup counter, I feel overwhelmed by the number of lipsticks they offer. How in the heck do you know which shade is going to be right for you? And who has the time to try on fifty different shades?

Fair Skin Tone

If you have fair skin, you probably have blue undertones to your skin. The best pink lipstick for your skin tone will have blue undertones too. Look for lipsticks that are bluish-pink in color. Fair skin usually looks great in bubblegum and cotton candy pink colors.

Olive Skin Tone

If you have olive skin, like I do, you will want to find hues that complement your warm complexion. Generally, you will look for pink lipsticks that have orange or coral hues. You might also like to try berry tones, as I find those are pretty flattering on my skin. I also look for lipsticks that have flecks of gold or golden shimmer, as those always work really well for me. Unlike for fair skin tones, bubble gum shades look horrible on my olive skin tone.

Dark Skin Tone

If you have darker skin, your perfect pink lipstick for your skin tone will have red or purple tones. Opt for colors like bright fuchsia, strawberry, or very deep purple tones. Vibrant colors look really great on dark skin, so try out lots of bright shades to see what works best for you.

I tried out four different NARS shades to see which would work best. I have my favorite, but what do you think?

  1. Totally makes sense!!! I have olive skin and always thought I looked terrible in bubblegum colored lipstick… Thanks for confirming it!

I am loving number 3 on you! Really brings out your features 🙂

    1. Yeah, bubble gum doesn’t look very good on me either! Thanks for the love about #3–that was my favorite too 🙂
