Trend Sight: Women’s Jumpsuits
Women’s jumpsuits are flying off the shelves this spring. Nearly every retailer is carrying them and I’m especially loving all the great printed jumpsuits out there.
I’ll be honest. It’s taken me some time to warm up to this trend. I thought jumpsuits were only for those super skinny, model types. But with so many different versions out there, I’ve definitely become a fan. Women’s jumpsuits can be an effortless option, if done right.
So how do us regular girls wear a jumpsuit? It’s all about picking the right fit and right color and/or print. Here are some quick rules to make sure you nail the jumpsuit look:
Find the Right Fit
The fit is everything. The jumpsuit should be body skimming–loose enough so there is no pulling (like no camel toe, ick), but not so loose that you lose your body shape.
Define a waist
This rule applies to so many fashion looks, but I’ll say it again. You must define your waist, either with a tie, belt, or if the jumpsuit has a build-tip waistband, that works too. If you don’t define your waist, you’ll look bigger and apple-shaped. We are after that hour-glass look, so even if you don’t have a tiny waist, fake it with a belt or sash.
Choose the Right Color and/or Prints
You will notice that the jumpsuits I chose are in darker neutral colors (black, navy). If you can pull off a brightly colored jumpsuit, more power to you. Most women will look better in darker colors because of their slimming effects. If you are going to choose a print, go a for smaller, uniform print. Large prints can overwhelm people, especially petite women. Also, since a jumpsuit is a head-to-toe look, a large print is going to be overwhelming on most peoples’ frames.
There are so many great women’s jumpsuits in retailers this spring. No matter your budget, you can give this trend a try. Here are six printed jumpsuits I’m loving this spring.
- Free People – $130
- Yigal Azrouel – $1050
- Vila – $65.85
- Zara – $89.90
- Forever 21 – $24.80
- Gat Rimon – $304
With my fail-proof tips, I hope you’ll give jumpsuits a chance. What do you think of the jumpsuit trend? Will you try one this spring?
