Spring 2015 Archives - Posh in Progress

New York fashion week spring 2015 ended last week. Although I didn’t attend, I love spending time scrolling through the runway shows and picking out my favorite looks. There are so many different designers and looks that I loved, but these four designers really stood out to me. It also became apparent I have a serious thing for lace and the shattered glass technique. I’m definitely looking forward to next spring. If these designers’ collections are any indication, it seems the midi skirt, crop tops, floral prints and black and white trends will hang around at least another year. Erin Fetherston When I saw Erin Fetherston’s collection, I was immediately drawn to her use of lace and her see-through skirts. I may not be daring enough to wear a sheer skirt, but with a minor alteration, I could see myself wearing so many of her sheer pieces. She also showed a lot of black and white with touches of florals throughout. She did incorporate a butterfly print in her collection that I’m not in love with, but besides this departure, I love the floral lace she chose and all the other interesting materials. The long sheer gray striped skirt look is just so chic. I love that she paired the look with white heels and a pair of modern white sunglasses. Adding a thin under-layer would make this skirt so wearable, especially for a night out or dressed down with a simple black tank. This white sheer lace skirt is just so gorgeous; the lace is breathtaking. If it were lined in white, I think it would be the perfect white lace pencil skirt. It would be so versatile for spring and summer—just as perfect for a work meeting as dinner out with the husband. This lace crop top and pencil skirt once again showcases the gorgeous lace. I love that she did short sleeves on the top and a below knee-length skirt, which really balances the proportions of the crop top. I could definitely see breaking these two pieces up and wearing the crop top with high waist black pants or even slouchy boyfriend jeans. Oscar De La Renta Oscar De La Renta is always one of my favorite designers because of his feminine touches. For spring 2015, his collection starts out pastels, especially light pink and blue. He incorporates texture with lace and floral appliques. He also shows checked prints early on in his collection. Near the end, he displays some gorgeous full dresses in vibrant greens and corals. Black and white also plays a strong role in his spring collection. It was difficult to choose only three looks, as I love almost everything he put down the runway. I’m obsessed with this sheer floral dress. The vibrant floral applique balances the sheer material perfectly. This ivory lace dress is stunning because of the gorgeous lace. The shape is simple, which is a perfect way to display the details in the lace and the gold belt adds a hard edge to an ultra feminine dress. The long checked coat is an unexpected piece to add to a spring wardrobe. I love the short sleeves to balance out the long length of the coat. The high-waist ivory pants and lace shirt give a classic monochromatic base to display the coat, while still adding some extra detail and showing off a slim waist. In a word, I would call his spring collection pretty. Jonathan Simkhai Jonathan Simkhai’s spring collection blew me away. He went a little overboard on the shattered glass look, but I’m obsessed with his proportions. His longer skirts paired with crop tops or other touches of skin with cutouts are perfect. I also love his simplicity of color since the materials he chose have so much texture and pattern. Sometimes I think monochromatic looks can be boring and I think about how I could break the pieces up, but monochromatic in these looks works because there is already so much detail in the pieces. The white midi skirt with crop top look might seem a bit risqué to some. I’m not sure I’m daring enough to wear this top, but the reason it works is because the skirt length balances out the top. The skirt hits mid-calf, so you only see touches of the leg, leaving room to show off your shoulders. Probably my favorite look of all, this blush midi skirt and mesh jacket is the perfect balance of feminine and masculine. I love the ultra girly midi pencil skirt, but I’m equally blown away by how chic Simkhai made mesh! I would love wearing this jacket over an LBD for an edgier night out look, or with cuffed jeans and a plain white tee. The black and white midi skirt look is another example of perfect proportions. The skirt is full and mid-calf, so the bare midriff and open shoulders really balances out the covered up bottom. This look would be perfect on a pear shaped women with gorgeous arms. Carolina Herrera For Spring 2015, Carolina Herrera showed a lot of white and neutrals sprinkled with some very vibrant colors, like coral, canary yellow and red/pinky ones. She also incorporated a lot of graphic floral prints. She broke up the florals with geometric pieces and some very structured pieces. She also cut up the prints, looking like shattered glass, to make geometric puzzles with some of the print --- balancing the hard edges with the soft, feminine prints. I am in love with this shattered floral gown. The white and vibrant print together with the shattered glass technique is so striking. The dress speaks for itself. I love this monochromatic white look because of that jacket. I love the pieced together puzzle pieces with the sheer material in between. The large collar adds to the drama of this jacket. It would pair so well with jeans or a LBD. This second monochromatic white look I love because of the structured jacket/cape and the exaggerated seams on the jacket and skirt. This look reminds me of a modern throwback to the 60’s and would make a perfect work suit for spring or summer.
