One of my dear friends from high school tied the knot in Brooklyn NY last weekend. Sadly, I was unable to attend, but her festivities had me daydreaming about what I would have worn should I have made the trip.I love a fall wedding; there is just something about the changing seasons and the colors of fall that evoke romance. I decided to share three ideas of how to dress for a fall wedding. I chose to feature three different wedding looks in places I’ve attended or been invited to weddings. Each look could work in any city; my goal was simply to showcase different ways to dress well for a fall wedding. New York I chose this bold red dress because the interesting neckline adds drama to an otherwise simple A-line silhouette that would work on most body types. When I pick a dress for a special event like a wedding, I look for something that can be worn more often than just the one event. This dress could be worn to work with the right blazer or out to a nice dinner. The neckline of this dress is such a focal point that it needs no necklace, so I chose a bold cuff with colorful jewels and very simple dangly silver earrings for a touch of shine by the face. The shoes and clutch make the dress a little rocker with bold metallics. I chose a simple leather blazer for a layer, should the weather be chilly. If the weather is very cold, you could easily throw on some black tights or even patterned tights with some simple black bootie heels to keep your legs and feet warm. Dress Blazer Earrings Shoes Bracelet Clutch Madison Not wearing white to a wedding (unless you are the bride) is the only hard and fast rule I follow. Some people object to wearing black, as it prompts memories of funerals and not joyous occasions like weddings. This no wearing black rule seems silly and impractical to me. I purposely chose to highlight a black dress look because almost every woman owns a simple black dress. Also, I recently had a friend ask me how to style her black dress for a wedding. It is practical to wear something you already own, it saves money, and makes sense if you don’t want to buy yet another special occasion dress you might only wear once. I purposely chose a simple silhouette so you could see how to use a black dress as a canvas for a visually interesting outfit. This look is all about the accessories. A bold necklace immediately draws attention to your face. I chose a dynamic and sexy shoe to play up your legs and add a bright pop of color. Fall in Madison can be chilly, so I added a leather biker jacket with gold accents to add some punch. Black and gold is a classic combination that can look cheap, if not done right. All of the pieces here only add to a rich and lux look. Simple gold bangles are a wardrobe staple that can work with almost any outfit and accentuates the gold accents on the jacket and the strappy sandals. An updated version of a black bag can be worn cross body or the strap can be removed to make a simple clutch. This specific bag is very versatile and can easily be carried day or night. Should the weather be too cold to wear these killer heels, you could easily add black tights and pointed toe heels to complete this look (any color will do, but a cobalt blue heel like this would be my preference). Necklace Jacket Dress Bangles Clutch Shoes Scottsdale My husband and I were married in Scottsdale. Although we chose a winter wedding, the Scottsdale climate in the fall is ideal for a wedding. I love the idea of this printed dress for a wedding because it is sexy without being slutty. The leather trim at the neckline and the tiny waist cutouts give this dress some edge since the silhouette is otherwise very simple. The graphic nature of the dress’ print lends itself to go a bit simpler (but not boring) on the accessories. I chose to mimic the leather piping in the dress with some leather and metal bangles. I added some texture to the look with the shoes and clutch, both giving a reptilian feel, so very southwest. The earrings mimic the geometric nature of the dress. And no outfit is complete without some punch of color at the face, so I chose a two-in-one makeup that will easily fit in the black and white clutch and can add some peachy-pink color to your cheeks or lips in an instant.
