Traveling to Chicago and Staying at The Gwen When I found out I had been selected as an ambassador for The Inspired Home Show, I was beyond thrilled. The Show is one of the largest and most influential gatherings in the home and housewares industry, so being a part of it in this capacity was truly an honor. The event was held in Chicago, a city known for its stunning architecture, vibrant culinary scene, and deep history. I’m from Wisconsin, so I used to travel to Chicago a lot as a child. It was nostalgic and fun to be back in the Midwest for this work trip. For my stay, I checked into The Gwen Hotel, a stylish and sophisticated hotel nestled in downtown Chicago. The Gwen offers a mix of art-deco elegance and modern luxury. It was the perfect retreat after long days at the Show. The location was ideal, providing easy access to the convention center, top restaurants, and some of the best shopping in the city. Waking up to the city skyline and knowing I was about to immerse myself in the world of innovative home products was such a special experience. What is The Inspired Home Show? The Inspired Home Show was formerly known as the International Home + Housewares Show. It is one of the most prominent trade shows in the home and housewares industry. It brings together thousands of brands and retailers from around the world. They showcase the latest innovations in home goods, kitchenware, smart home technology, cleaning products, and much more. Held annually at McCormick Place, the largest convention center in North America, the show features more than 1,600 exhibitors and buyers from more than 100 countries. It’s an absolute dream for anyone passionate about home design, cooking, and smart living solutions. For buyers, media professionals, and influencers like myself, it’s an opportunity to see firsthand what’s trending, test out new products, and form relationships with brands that are shaping the future of the home industry. The Brands and Innovations on Display One of the most exciting aspects of attending The Inspired Home Show was getting to meet with a diverse range of brands. We met well-established household names to up-and-coming startups bringing fresh ideas to the market. The Show floor was packed with innovative kitchen gadgets, high-tech appliances, eco-friendly home solutions, and stylish décor items. Some of the biggest and most recognizable names in the industry were present, showcasing their newest collections and cutting-edge technology. At the same time, I was introduced to emerging brands with inspiring stories and game-changing products that are just entering the market. Some key trends that stood out included: Smart Kitchen Appliances: From AI-powered coffee makers to app-controlled cooking devices, technology is making kitchens smarter and more efficient. Sustainable Home Solutions: Many brands are prioritizing sustainability, introducing reusable materials, biodegradable packaging, and energy-efficient designs. Multifunctional Products: More than ever, consumers want home products that serve multiple purposes, whether it's an air fryer that also dehydrates or a storage solution that doubles as home décor. Pet Products and Travel Products: This year, the Show also featured a variety of pet products and travel-related home items, catering to pet owners and frequent travelers looking for innovative solutions. Meeting Founders and CEOs One of the most rewarding parts of attending The Inspired Home Show as an ambassador was getting to meet the brand visionaries. Speaking directly with founders and CEOs gave me invaluable insights. I learned about their missions, inspirations, and the meticulous process of bringing their products to life. Hearing the passion behind their creations made me appreciate these brands even more. Many of them shared their journey of starting small. Sometimes in their own kitchens or homes—and growing into major players in the industry. It was inspiring to see how dedication, innovation, and understanding consumer needs could transform an idea into a successful business. I had insightful conversations about product design, market trends, and the challenges of staying ahead in a competitive industry. These interactions made the experience even more meaningful. It allowed me to not just see the products but understand the stories behind them. It was also really valuable to hear brands’ thoughts on social media and the role that influencers play in their businesses. Live Demonstrations and Special Sessions One of the highlights of The Inspired Home Show was getting to watch live demonstrations by world-class chefs, bakers, and culinary experts. Seeing these professionals in action was an absolute treat. I had the incredible opportunity to hear from Thomas Keller which was a special experience for any food enthusiast. Beyond the chef demonstrations, I also attended a women’s panel featuring celebrity chef Cat Cora and other notable women leaders. This panel was an empowering experience, as these accomplished women shared their journeys, challenges, and advice for succeeding i. Hearing their stories firsthand reinforced the importance of innovation, resilience, and passion in this space. Another fascinating session I attended was led by Pantone. I got an exclusive look at the color palettes of the year. As someone who appreciates design and aesthetics, this session was particularly exciting. Learning about how color trends are chosen and how they influence everything from home décor to kitchen appliances was incredibly insightful. It gave me a whole new appreciation for the role of color in shaping consumer preferences and interior trends. Global Innovations Award Dinner and Show Anniversaries One of the most memorable events I attended was the Global Innovations Award (gia) Dinner. This prestigious event celebrated some of the most outstanding brands in the industry, highlighting the winners of the 2025 Global Innovations Awards. It was an honor to witness these brands being recognized for their creativity, functionality, and groundbreaking designs. This year was particularly special as it marked the 25th anniversary of the gia Awards, making the celebration even more meaningful. Additionally, The Inspired Home Show celebrated its 125th event, a testament to its long-standing impact on the home and housewares industry. The atmosphere was filled with excitement. Industry leaders and innovators came together to acknowledge the incredible progress and future of home products.
