Disneyland Toontown Reopened: 7 Major Attractions + What to See & Do

Disneyland and Disney Park invited us to attend the reopening ceremony of Disneyland Toontown. All opinions are my own.

This past weekend, we were lucky enough to attend the re-opening ceremony of Disneyland’s Toontown. We got to visit the day before it was open to park guests for a special media tour of the new attractions and rides. Toontown has been closed since March 14, 2020. Initially, the entire Disneyland park was closed due to COVID. However, even after the park reopened, Toontown remained closed for renovations.

Toontown Rides and Attractions

We arrived at Disneyland right at 8 am when the park opened. After going on a few rides, we were invited to attend a breakfast reception before entering Toontown just before 9:30. As we walked under the train bridge into Toontown, you could feel the excitement and anticipation. Everyone was so excited to walk into Toontown. If you haven’t been, it is a land where classic Disney cartoons come to life. To me, it is the most playful and joyful part of the park, which is saying a lot. I love all the bold colors and exaggerated shapes and cartoon-like architecture.

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin

One of the highlights of Toontown is the Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin attraction. This wild ride takes guests through a zany cartoon world.  They spin and twirl through the streets of Toontown in their very own “toon cab.” The kids and I have ridden this ride a while ago, but it has been several years. We were lucky enough to be the first guests to ride Roger Rabbit during the media day for reopening weekend.

Gadget’s Go Coaster

Another fan-favorite attraction in Toontown is Gadget’s Go Coaster. This mini rollercoaster takes guests through a world of gadgets and gizmos. This was our first time riding this ride. We felt so special because we were, once again, the first people to get to ride the ride. Even more special, it was just my kids and me on the very first ride.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

The newest and highly anticipated ride in Disney Toontown is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. The ride is a family-friendly dark ride that takes guests on an adventure through a cartoon world inspired by the Mickey Mouse shorts. The ride starts with guests entering the El Capitoon Theater, where they are treated to a short cartoon featuring Mickey, Minnie, and other beloved characters. After the cartoon, guests board a train driven by Goofy that takes them through a series of scenes that include various special effects, 3D visuals, and music. Throughout the ride, guests will encounter familiar Disney characters such as Daisy, Donald, and Pluto, as well as new characters like the villainous Phantom Blot.

One of the most unique aspects of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is that the ride vehicles are designed to move in a way that makes guests feel like they are part of the cartoon world. The ride also features a catchy theme song, “Nothing Can Stop Us Now,” which guests will likely be humming long after they exit the attraction.

Overall, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a fun, whimsical, and highly entertaining ride that offers a unique and immersive experience for guests of all ages. Whether you’re a lifelong Mickey Mouse fan or just looking for a fun ride to enjoy with your family, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is definitely worth checking out.

We were lucky enough to ride this ride at Disney World last year. We were so excited to get to experience it now at Disneyland. I have to say, I actually think the one at Disneyland is better. It felt grander to me. I can’t provide any additional details because my memory of riding it at Hollywood Studios in Disney World isn’t the clearest. I know we liked it there, but I just know we liked it even more at Disneyland because it felt bigger and more immersive.

Mickey’s House and Minnie’s House at Toontown

Of course, no visit to Disneyland Toontown would be complete without a visit to the homes of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Guests can explore Mickey’s house, where they can meet the famous mouse himself and even snap a selfie with him. Minnie’s house is just as charming, with guests able to peek inside and see her various hobbies and interests.

We had a great time touring Minnie’s house. We had time to explore each of her rooms – a living room, bedroom, and kitchen. Then, we headed out back to her patio where she waited to take pictures of us with her tea party. It was a really fun experience, as this was our first time going through her house.

But the reopening of Mickey’s Toontown wasn’t just about the attractions. It was also a chance for guests to once again indulge in the delicious food offerings in the land. From the classic corn dogs at Pluto’s Dog House to the scrumptious churros at Clarabelle’s, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

CenTOONial Park

This is where you can see the gorgeous fountain with Minnie on the top. The fountain is such that your kids will easily be able to play in it and enjoy the water features. there is also a really lovely tree with roots that your kids can climb on. There’s also a lot of open areas in the park where you can set up a picnic or relax in the shade with your family.

Donald’s Duck Pond

Although it wasn’t a splash pad when we visited, Donald’s duck pond is a play area that features water activities and other fun play areas for the kids. I’m not sure when this is a water play yard – perhaps in the warmer summer months. But, there are still a lot of really fun activities for the kids here.

Goofy’s How-To Play Yard

This fun and interactive attraction allows you to explore Goofy’s home.  There are many interactive elements and areas for kids to explore and run around. My kids actually spent a surprisingly long time here. I didn’t expect them to be that interested because it reminded me of any cool park we’ve been to around LA. But they absolutely loved it.

What to Eat at Disneyland Toontown

Disneyland Toontown is home to some delicious food options that are sure to satisfy any appetite. Here are some of the must-try foods in Toontown:

  1. Cafe Daisy – Cafe Daisy is located right near Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. They offer pizza, sandwiches, and some specialty drinks and desserts. We each enjoyed one of the pizzas and my kids loved theirs! It’s a perfect quick lunch spot right in the heart of Toontown.
  2. Good Boy Grocers – This is a great place to stop for a snack and fill your picnic baskets with some healthy and yummy snacks. I was really impressed with the healthy offerings. My kids chose fruit roll-ups (a healthy version), along with Baby Bel cheeses and goldfish crackers. They also had apple slices, beverages, and some other healthier snack options like granola bars and trail mix.

Disneyland Toontown Opening Day Highlights

One of the highlights of the day was the “Welcome Back to Toontown” parade. This colorful procession featured all of the beloved characters from Disneyland Toontown, as well as a few surprise guests. The parade was a joyful celebration of the reopening of this beloved land, and guests couldn’t help but dance and sing along to the catchy tunes. Beyond the parade, there were also many opportunities to interact with the characters. My kids definitely smiled when they got to interact with the characters. One of my all-time favorite pictures is the one of Donald holding Rocco’s hand.

Overall, we had so much fun at the Disneyland Toontown reopening ceremony and media event. Toontown is such a playful, imaginative, and fun place to be. It is the perfect place for families and kids of all ages to enjoy a day of whimsical fun and adventure.
