I have to admit, I’m usually a little slow to picking up the latest denim trends. Generally, I tend to sit back a while and see what’s going to stick before jumping into a new jean fit. I can distinctly remember when skinny jeans first became popular. For the longest time, I did not want to give up my bootcut jeans for skinny jeans. I honestly thought skinny jeans would make me look even bigger. Over time, I’ve learned to love how skinny jeans look on me, especially if they are cropped too. But now, a new jeans trend is back. I’m quickly learning to love high waisted wide leg jeans for women. Read on to find out why and also which ones are my favorite.
I never used to like how wide leg jeans looked on me. I honestly thought they made me just look – well – wider. And to a degree, I still think that is true. However, I’ve really learned to as the oversized jeans look paired with a well-fitted top. I often wear my new favorite women’s wide leg jeans with a cropped tank top or t. For this look, I was going for a casual Friday vibe. I think these jeans look so cute with this cropped knotted button-down. It gives off work vibes without being too stuffy. I also chose to add a cute pump with a medium-height heel to add a little extra height and length to my leg line.

If you’re looking for wide leg jeans for women for the fall, I personally would suggest looking for a lighter wash to start. I think light wash feels more fresh and youthful right now. I have seen some medium wash flares that I really want to try though. That’s a totally different look than wide leg jeans. High-waisted wide-leg jeans worked better on me than medium or low-rise. The main reason for this is because the high waisted jeans hit me right at the smallest part of my waist. Then, when I pair the jeans with a short or cropped top, it shows off the smallest part of me. Your eye is immediately drawn to the waist rather than the widest part.
As for styling high waisted wide leg jeans, you definitely need to wear a fitted top. The jeans are intentionally oversized, so you need to wear a top that fits close to the body. It doesn’t have to be skin tight, but it should be well-fitted. That’s why I love this button-down. The fit is close enough to the body, yet totally work-appropriate. I wear these jeans from day to night all the time, simply by changing out the top. If I throw on a fitted tank and some strappy heels, I have a great going-out look. This winter, I’ll definitely pair these jeans with a cropped fitted sweater or sweatshirt and some chunky dad sneakers for an easy casual look.
