How are you celebrating Memorial day? We’re getting together with some friends. I have a feeling there will be some grilling and imbibing. I’m not a huge drinker, but when I do have a drink, I like it to be fruity. To highlight some of the best produce of the summer, I created this blueberry watermelon smash cocktail. It is the perfect summertime drink and makes great use of the fresh berries and watermelon you can get this time of year.

To make this blueberry watermelon smash cocktail, you need fresh blueberries, watermelon, lemon, vodka and sparkling water. I chose to use a berry-flavored sparkling water, but any fizzy drink will work. As for the vodka, I used SVEDKA with the patriotic stars and stripes summer packaging, which is perfect for the upcoming summer holidays. I like SVEDKA because it is distilled five times and imported from Sweden. It is the number one vodka brand in the US (Adams, 2015) and is the perfect vodka to bring people together around delicious drinks. When you try SVEDKA for yourself, make sure to use the Shopkick app to earn 75 kicks for scanning the UPC at the shelf and 200 kicks for purchasing the product. Also, make sure to look for the neck hangers  to save $2.00 off, in stores.

If you’re interested in trying this blueberry watermelon smash cocktail, first you need to make blueberry syrup. If you want the drink to be a bit chunkier, you can leave the blueberry pieces in it. Once you have the syrup, you can make the watermelon concentrate simply by pureeing chunks of watermelon. If you like, you can leave it in pureed form for a thicker cocktail, or you can strain it.  As another option, if you want a really chunky drink, you could just smash the watermelon. Since watermelon is mostly water, it breaks down really easily. Once those two steps are complete, you can add as much of each of the fruit concentrate to a glass, add a shot of SVEDKA, and top the drink with sparkling water.

I also created these adorable little fruit toppers by using a bamboo stick with five blueberries and a star-shaped watermelon. I made the little stars by using a small star-shaped cookie cutter and sliced pieces of watermelon.

Not only is the drink delicious, it is so festive for Memorial Day and perfect for the 4th of July too. I hope you have a great summer with family and friends, and this recipe is the perfect thing to bring everyone together.
