Oh My Gosh, Posh – Emmys Tribute

omg-posh-emmys-wpLast night was the 65th annual Emmy Awards.  I thought it would be fun to tell you about a few things I’m loving right now (OMG), through the lens (or screen) of some of my favorite tv shows and actors represented at last night’s Emmys.

  1. I would certainly feel as proper as Mary Crowley of Downton Abbey were I to use this pretty tea set for my high tea.
  2. One of my all-time favorite TV shows is The Sopranos.  We still regularly watch reruns and it was a sad loss for the industry when James Gandolfini passed away.  I chose this baked ziti recipe, because my husband and I always longed to sit at Tony’s dinner table. Everything he ate always looked so darn good, and this recipe seems like something Carmela would have made.
  3. I’ll admit I was surprised at just how addicted I was to watching House of Cards.  I think we watched all of the episodes in a matter of a couple days, that’s how good it was.  The lead character’s wife, Claire, was always going for a run, and she always looked so chic in her running clothes.  I’ll admit I tend to choose the same boring comfortable workout gear while my prettier (and tighter) items remain in my drawers.  But I never skip choosing a funky and bright pair of running shoes.  These rad ombre runners might just add that spark I need to up my workout wardrobe ante.
  4. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has come a long way in her styling from Elaine to her newest character, Selina Meyer in Veep.  She is the vice president, but she chooses extremely well-fitting dresses that are sexy while still being professional.  This belted sheath is very reminiscent of something she’d wear.  It is a perfect work dress that can transition to evening with the right shoes and accessories.
  5. This fall, menswear inspired fabrics are everywhere, very reminiscent of Nucky Thompson in Boardwalk Empire.  I wasn’t sure I could get behind the plaid trend this fall, but the print on this blazer is subtle enough that I could easily see this in my fall work wardrobe.
  6. Mad Men is known almost as much for its fashion as for its catchy storylines and sexy lead actor. The show has undoubtedly inspired today’s fashion. Fifties and 60’s fashion trends never seem to die, but the show has no doubt enlivened vintage trends.  I love this Temperley London shift (seen on the runway here).  Couldn’t you just see Megan Draper wearing this shift, which gives an obvious nod to the 1960’s while also showcasing the winter white trend that is so hot (or cold) for fall.
