Vintage as a Frozen Banana: Retro Beach Look

Fashion is cyclical.  What’s old is new, and the 50’s style, retro beach look of swimsuit is apparent in this one-piece as well as the many high-waisted two-pieces seen this season (like this one). I was immediately drawn to this retro vibe of this color-blocked one-piece with sweetheart neckline.  The seaming at the chest and the sweetheart style will add shape and the white band at the waist will add an hour-glass effect.

As I am sure many women will relate, my tummy area is something I’d always like to tone-down. Since this suit is color-blocked with black on the bottom, your eye will be drawn to the vibrant teal and the sweetheart detail.   I love the retro cat-eye glasses, also having their fashion moment, but Stella McCarthy’s version feel more modern than retro with the sleek metallic sides.

The wedges, also with a subtle color-blocking, go without being too matchy-match and play up the more subtle blue color in the dress.  I love the versatility of this cover-up, which could easily be mistaken for a day or evening dress with the right accessories.  The three-layer necklace is simple but not boring, while adding a thoughtful addition to this outfit.  Finally, a wide-brimmed sunhat is a must for any beach outing.
